Crock Pot Bolognese

Holy crap, this turned out delicious.  Tomato-ey, meaty yum.  I served it over spaghetti squash, but pasta would work famously as well.  It’s the kind of recipe I like to call semi-homemade, and it took about 5 minutes to toss in the crock pot this morning.

Ingredients:

1 yellow onion, chopped coarsely
6 cloves of garlic, smashed and roughly chopped
6 ounces raw uncased mild Italian sausage
1 pound cubed beef – lean chuck round works really well
12 ounces lean ground beef (93/7)
1 can Progresso Recipe Starters – Fire-roasted tomato flavor
1 jar of your favorite tomato sauce (I didn’t have time to make my own, so I used Fred Meyer brand 3 cheese tomato sauce.)
6 ounces red wine of your choice (I used 1999 Brunello left over from the previous evening.)
1.5 teaspoons dried basil leaves

Directions: Put all ingredients in crock pot. Stir to crumble ground meat.  Cover, turn on to low.  Cook 7-8 hours, or until cubed beef falls apart.  Stir occasionally to continue breaking up the ground meat.
